Home and Insurgent were both released on Friday and went to head to head as they battled for the number one spot… however, it is the latest offering from DreamWorks Animations that has stormed to the top of the box office.

The movie, which boasts the voice cast of Rihanna, Jim Parsons, Jennifer Lopez, and Steve Martin, took over £6 million since Friday to storm to the top spot this week - holding off Insurgent and toppling The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel.

Insurgent may be the #1 movie in the U.S. but it had to settle for second place in the UK this week. Insurgent is the second of Veronica Roth's novels to be adapted for the big screen and is released a year after the success of Divergent. The movie took £2.9 million over the weekend at opened at number two.

The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel performed well at the UK box office over the last couple of weeks but it had to release its grip on the top spot. The sequel slipped two places down to number three.

Focus was down one place from three to four this week, while The Gunman was the second new entry inside the top ten at five. The movie sees double Oscar winner Sean Penn take on a major acting role for the first time as he teamed up with director Pierre Morel.

Run All Night was the first of two four-place fallers this week as the Liam Neeson movie dropped from two to this week's number six. Suite Francaise also fell this week as it dropped three spots from four to number seven.

Still Alice continues to perform well and was down place at eight this week, while Fifty Shade of Grey was the other four-place faller - down from five to nine. However, the film has grossed in excess of $558 million at the global box office so far this year.

Wild Card rounded off the top ten as the third and final new entry. The movie marks the return of Jason Statham as he reunites with director Simon West. Wild Card is their third movie together having worked on The Mechanic and The Expendables 2 in recent years.
