Hugh Jackman has said that X-Men: Days of Wolverine could be his last outing as Wolverine.

The Oscar nominated actor will be reprising the role of Logan in the sequel to X-Men: First Class; a film that sees director Bryan Singer return to the franchise.

And while Wolverine is the most popular character in the series, Jackman says this could be the last time that we see him.

Speaking to MTV the actor said: "It may be the last. By the way, it didn't hit me until three weeks before the end [of shooting X-Men: Days of Future Past], because we promoted The Wolverine and I came back on set with three weeks to go, and that's when I went, 'Well, who knows? Maybe there's no more Wolverine. Maybe this is it. Who knows? Maybe'."

"So I really made the most of those last few weeks. I enjoyed every time I put the claws on. I nicked everything off the set, so Halloween, come to me and I'll hook you up."

X-Men: Days of Future Past is a movie that brings together the cast of First Class and stars from the original trilogy. Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellan and Halle Berry are also back and will join James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender.

Singer was in the director's chair for X-Men and X2, but did not return for X-Men: The Last Stand. This is his first film for the franchise since the success of X2.

X-Men: Days of Future Past is released 22nd May 2014
