Idris Elba

Idris Elba says he is excited about working behind the camera.

Elba is set to make his directorial debut towards the end of the year, and is working hard in preparation to make that transition.

And the actor reveals that he is excited about getting the chance to develop his own creative ideas.

Speaking to the Press Association, the actor said: "I'm directing something at the end of this year so (I'm) in preparation for doing that.

"My production company's busy at the moment and it's a new existence for me because it's not about me being in front of the camera.

"It's about me creating opportunities to develop ideas with other people, which is great. I'm loving that."

This is not the first time that Elba has been in the director's chair, having helmed an episode of Playhouse Presents in 2013. However, this will be his feature film debut.

Elba may be turning his hand to directing, but he has plenty of acting roles in the pipeline.

He has already completed work on No Good Deed, The Gunman and Second Coming.

Beasts of No Nation and Bastille Day are also in the pipeline, along with a new adaptation of The Jungle Book: he is set to voice the character of Shere Khan.
