Idris Elba

Idris Elba

Idris Elba has spoke about the rumours that he is the favourite to take over the role of James Bond when Daniel Craig finally walks away from the role.

Elba is a British actor who has always been in the Bond mix when discussing who could take over from Craig in recent years, but the Sony hack revealed that he was the favourite of Sony Chairman Amy Pascal to take over the role of 007.

Elba has spoke about the opportunity to play Bond in the past, and he has now taken to Twitter to address these latest rumours and email leaks. Joking on the social media site, he wrote: Isn’t 007 supposed to be handsome? Glad you think I’ve got a shot! Happy New Year people.

Filming is currently underway on the latest Bond film Spectre, which will be Craig’s fourth outing in the role of James Bond - he is contracted to star in five movies and so another film starring Craig is potentially in the pipeline.

Ever since Craig was cast in the role of 007 - he made his debut as the super spy back in 2006 in Casino Royale - speculation has raged over who could replace him - Elba, Henry Cavill, and Tom Hardy have been just some of the names that have been banded around in recent years.

Craig went on to star in Quantum of Solace and Skyfall, which was the last time that we saw 007 on the big screen. Skyfall went on to be the most successful Bond movie of all time when it was released back in 2012.

Spectre will see Sam Mendes return to the director’s chair for his second Bond movie, while Craig will be joined on the cast list by familiar faces such as Ben Whishaw, Ralph Fiennes, and Naomi Harris. Dave Bautista, Monica Bellucci, Christoph Waltz, and Lea Seydoux are some of the new names to watch out for.

As for Elba, we are going to be seeing plenty of him on the big screen next year as he has already finished work on Beasts of No Nation, A Hundred Streets, The Gunman, and Avengers: Age of Ultron. Elba will be reprising the role of Heimdall in Age of Ultron in what will be the first Avengers appearance for the character.

The British actor is currently filming a new adaptation of The Jungle Book with director Jon Favreau - he is set to voice the character of Shere Khan. The movie will be a mix of live action and CGI, with Scarlett Johansson, Bill Murray, Christopher Walken, Ben Kingsley, and Lupita Nyong’o just some of the other names that have lent their voices to the film.
