Jake Gyllenhaal has revealed that he has considered taking up the director’s chair, but has not felt ‘presumptuous enough’ to make the leap.

Gyllenhaal has been enjoying plenty of success in front of the camera in recent years, but reveals that he has been looking for a project that would entice him to tackle directing for the first time.

Speaking to Variety, the actor said: "I'm searching, but I have yet to feel presumptuous enough. Story is king. Whatever format you're telling your story in, as long as it's a great story."

We have seen so m any actors make the leap into the director’s chair recently, with the likes of Chris Evans, Don Cheadle, and Elizabeth Banks all set to make their debuts over the next twelve months.

Gyllenhaal may have directing dreams, but that does not mean that we are not going to see him in front of the camera - as a matter of fact, he has plenty of projects in the pipeline.

Gyllenhaal is back on the big screen as Nightcrawler is released here in the UK - the actor’s central performance has already been winning critics over in the States, as he dropped a pile of weight to prepare for this role.

Gyllenhaal has also completed work on Nailed and boxing drama Southpaw. The movie will see the actor team up with director Antoine Fuqua for the first time, while Rachel McAdams and Naomie Harris are also on the cast list.

We will also be seeing the actor in Everest, while he is currently working on his latest project Demolition. Filming is underway on the Jean-Marc Vallee movie, and sees Gyllenhaal star alongside Naomi Watts and Chris Cooper.

Nightcrawler is released 31st October.
