McAvoy and Radcliffe team up for the first time for the new take on the Frankenstein story, which sees McAvoy take on the title role and Radcliffe plays Igor.

McAvoy says that Victor Frankenstein does get quite physical and Radcliffe was happy to 'take a few knocks.'

Speaking to Collider about the film, the actor said: "I'm not a cage fighter, but I'm quite often physical in this. I'm physical in a lot of films but often times you come across someone who isn't comfortable with that. So it's not a two way street. A lot of the physical ideas you have frighten the director or frighten the other actor.

"Dan and Paul are all up for that shit. This movie, which had a fair bit of action, has turned into [something] even bigger. Huge dialogue scenes have turned into massive set pieces. Dan has met me at that and come further than me. We're throwing each other around all the time.

"There was one set piece that was really just a wrestling match. It's really nice to work with someone who's physically comfortable and physically capable and can take a few knocks."

Victor Frankenstein marks the return of Paul McGuigan to the director's chair for his first feature since Push back in 2009. And the director has brought together a terrific cast as McAvoy and Radcliffe are joined by Andrew Scott, Jessica Brown Findlay, Charles Dance, Mark Gatiss, Louise Brealey, and Daniel Mays.

We haven't seen too much of McAvoy on the big screen this year but it has been a busy 2015 for the actor. He has also completed work on X-Men: Apocalypse, which sees him reprise the role of Charles Xavier, and he is currently working on The Coldest City.

Victor Frankenstein is released 3rd December.
