James McAvoy says Frankenstein will focus on the relationship between Victor Frankenstein and Igor.

Frankenstein is the latest adaptation of the Mary Shelley movie, and sees McAvoy team up with fellow British actor Daniel Radcliffe.

While it will be a story that we do recognise, McAvoy says that it does approach some of the similar themes in a different way.

Speaking to Digital Spy, the actor said: "It’s about obsession and a maniacal pursuit of advancement, and it’s also about man and God and trying to replace God and whether that’s right or wrong with man trying to become the creator.

"It’s about the same thing, but it approaches it in a different fashion.

"It is not about the monster’s existential crisis and dilemma at all, but it is about the relationship between my own character Victor Frankenstein and Daniel Radcliffe’s character Igor, who doesn’t feature in Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein."

Filming is currently underway on Frankenstein, and sees Paul McGuigan in the director's chair.

We will be seeing McAvoy back on the big screen later this year with X-Men: Days of Future Past - a movie that sees him reprise the role of Charles Xavier.

Frankenstein is released 15th January 2015.
