Jamie Dornan says that Fifty Shades of Grey is not a misogynistic movie and it is actually a love story rather than focusing on the BDSM aspect of the novel.

Dornan is set to take on the role of Christian Grey in the highly anticipated adaptation of the E.L. James novel later this year, alongside Dakota Johnson as Anastasia Steele and Sam Taylor-Johnson in the director’s chair.

But the actor - who has shot to fame with TV series such as The Fall in the last year or so - has spoken out saying that there is so much more going on in this movie that simply tying up women and spanking them.

Speaking to ELLE UK magazine, the actor said: "I can understand why people say tying a woman up and spanking her is misogynistic. But actually, more men are submissives than women. Very powerful men. It's a far bigger scene than I imagined.

"The love story is more important than the BDSM aspect. I mean, we are going to tell a love story, you know, it can't just be what happens in the Red Room, that's not a film. There's so much more going on than that."
Christian Grey is set to be the biggest film role of Dornan’s career to date and is set to send his star rocketing when the movie hits the big screen in February. He and Johnson are joined on the cast list by Jennifer Ehle, Luke Grimes, Marcia Gay Harden, Max Martini and Rita Ora.

As for Dornan, we have just seen him star in the second season of crime drama The Fall, which saw him reunite with actress Gillian Anderson as he reprised the role of murderer Paul Spector - the second season enjoyed as much success as the first.

We are also going to be seeing Dornan star in an untitled John Wells movie later this year, and he is currently filming The 9th Life of Louis Drax, which will see him team up with filmmaker Alexandre Aja. The movie is based on the novel by Liz Jensen and will see Sarah Gadon, Aaron Paul, and Oliver Platt on the cast list.

Fifty Shades of Grey is released 13th February.
