Lopez is set to return to the big screen at the end of February with The Boy Next Door, which will see her star as well as produce. This is Lopez's first big screen outing since Parker back in 2013.

And the actress reveals that her producing partner had been pushing her to tackle a smaller budget project for some time.

Speaking to Collider, the actress said: "Actually my producing partner and I had a vision of me doing a role like this. She manifested it into being and found it through our agency and was like, "I really think this would be a good next project for you." We just took it on and championed it and got it made on a micro-budget of $4 million in 25 days.

"It was super intense. I never had done a film like that in my career. That was the first time we did that, but it was very liberating as an artist because it made me realize I can make whatever movie I want like this."

The Boy Next Door sees Lopez team up with director Rob Cohen for the first time, in what will be his first movie since Alex Cross back in 2012. Lopez will lead the cast that also includes Ryan Guzman, Kristin Chenoweth, Ian Nelson, and John Corbett.

And we are going to be seeing more of Lopez in 2015, as she has also completed work on drama Lila & Eve. Directed by Charles Stone III, Lila & Eva will see Lopez star alongside Viola Davis as they take on the title roles.

Lopez has also lent her voice to animation movie Home, which is the latest offering from DreamWorks. It is set to hit the big screen in March.

The Boy Next Door is released 27th February.
