Next month we are going to see 10 Cloverfield Lane hit the big screen. While it is not being called a direct sequel to the 2008 movie, it looks like they are linked; just how they fit together is being kept a mystery.

10 Cloverfield Lane was a project that took many by surprise when a poster for the film dropped out of nowhere. It is now one of the most anticipated films of early 2016 and see Abrams on board as producer.

And the filmmaker has hinted that there are ideas for a third film already being talked about.

Speaking to EW, the director said: "I think [categorizing them] would be presumptuous, because we're talking about this movie and comparing it to Cloverfield, but I would be lying if I didn't say there was something else that, if we're lucky enough to do it, could be really cool that connects some stories."

10 Cloverfield Lane marks the feature film directorial debut for Dan Trachtenberg. Whiplash writer and director Damien Chazelle has teamed up with Matthew Stuecken and Josh Campbell to pen the film's screenplay.

Mary Elizabeth Winstead is set to take on the central role of Michelle and is joined on the cast list by John Goodman and John Gallagher Jr.

10 Cloverfield Lane is not the only Abrams-produced movie that will be hitting the big screen this year as Star Trek Beyond will be released this summer. This is the first new Star Trek film that will not have been directed by Abrams.

10 Cloverfield Lane is released 18th March.
