The 42-year-old actor - who stars in the David Ayer-directed sci-fi film 'Bright' - has admitted that while Hollywood has afforded him some "great opportunities", there are also some potential pitfalls to working in Tinseltown.

He told SBS: "Bright is a big Hollywood movie, but David Ayer is not extremely Hollywood. He spent years working on a submarine and is a completely different fish compared to the ones swimming around in Hollywood.

"I'm not scared of doing big Hollywood movies. I just want to know that they have at least some nutritional value. I mean one day I might just take the money and run and I'll acknowledge that without shame. I'll wave to you from my Maserati as I tear on by!

"I don't mean to p**s on Hollywood because it has provided lots of great opportunities for me. It's also a loose term that's hard to define."

This comes shortly after Joel admitted he is glad his looks allow him to play a variety of different characters.

Joel has accepted a broad range of roles during his career, including the Ancient Egyptian Pharaoh Ramses in 'Exodus: Gods and Kings', and he has confessed it's a challenge he relishes.

The Australian actor said previously: "If you're super good-looking and charismatic and you like playing the same character every time, good luck to you - you'll make squillions of dollars.

"The interest I have in being an actor, though, is adapting your energy to play all sorts of different characters."

In January, Joel revealed he was then in the midst of losing weight for a new on-screen role.

He shared: "I'm losing weight right now for a f**king job. I've dropped 10 kilos in three weeks."
