There has been a lot of talk about the possibility of a Beetlejuice sequel over the last year or so, but nothing has been announced or confirmed.

But rumours have been swirling that Depp, a long-time collaboration of Burton would be taking over the title role from Keaton.

In an interview with Collider, Burton puts those rumours straight and reveals that he has talked to Keaton and Winona Ryder about the possibility of a second film.

He said: "This is the thing, it's something that I'm interested in, but there's so many stories [online], dumping Michael Keaton for Johnny Depp and this or that, and I've talked to these people and they didn't wanna hear this so they just made up a story.

"But the fact of it is I have talked to Michael and I have talked to Winona, I've talked to a few people. It's something that I really would like to do in the right circumstances, but it's one of those films where it has to be right.

Beetlejuice hit the big screen back in 1988 and was only the second feature film of Burton's career. He would do on to work with Keaton on Batman and Batman Returns in 1989 and 1992.

While it doesn't look like we will be getting a sequel anytime soon, Burton will be back in the director's chair later this year with Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children.

Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children is based on the novel by Ransom Riggs and had been adapted into a screenplay by Jane Goldman. This will be the first feature film for Burton since Big Eyes.

The film sees the director reunite with actress Eva Green - with whom he worked on Dark Shadows - as she takes on the title role. Green is joined on the cast list by Samuel L. Jackson, Asa Butterfield, Allison Janney, Ella Purnell, Judi Dench, Chris O'Dowd, and Terence Stamp.

Sadly we do have quite a wait until Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children hits the big screen, as it is not due for release until 30th September.

But it promises to have all of Burton's gothic flair and it is one of the autumn movies that I am looking forward to the most.
