Over the last few weeks rumours have been circulating that Favreau was set to return to the director's chair to helm one of the Star Wars spin offs that will be coming our way over the next couple of years.

The second of the Star Wars anthology movies was set to be directed by Josh Trank but Favreau and Matthew Vaughn are the two names that have been linked to the project since the departure of Trank earlier this year.

But now Favreau has taken to Twitter to confirm that he will not be taking up the currently vacant director's chair.

We haven't see Favreau at the helm of a movie since he directed and starred in Chef in 2014 but he is set to return next year with The Jungle Book.

This is one of two Jungle Book projects that are in the pipeline - Andy Serkis is directing the second - and Favreau's film will be released in April 2016.

Filming is underway on the movie and the director has brought together a terrific cast that includes Scarlett Johansson, Idris Elba, and Bill Murray.

The Jungle Book will hit the big screen in the U.S. on 15th April 2016, no UK release date has yet been announced.
