Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow

Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow

Joss Whedon says that Black Widow remains 'central' to Avengers: Age of Ultron, and nothing has changed script wise because of Scarlett Johansson's pregnancy.

It was revealed that Johansson was pregnant with her first child before filming on the Avengers sequel got under way - a movie that will see her play Black Widow for a fourth time.

Whedon is back in the director's chair and says they were committed to making it work.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Whedon said: "She's very central to the movie and when we heard [about the pregnancy] we scheduled things around that.

"She's not going to spend the whole movie carrying groceries. We didn't trim any scenes. We're like: 'We'll make it work.'"

Age of Ultron sees Johansson reunite with Robert Downey Jr, Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, and Jeremy Renner, as they all reprise the roles of Iron Man, Thor, Captain America, Hulk, and Hawkeye.

We saw Johansson return to the role of Black Widow earlier this year in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and this is the first time we have seen the Avengers together since the summer of 2012.

Avengers: Age of Ultron will bring Phase Two of Marvel films to a close. It is released 24th April.
