Joy is set to be the third collaboration between Russell and Lawrence - coming off the back of the success of Silver Lining Playbook and American Hustle - and will tell the story of the inventor of the Miracle Mop.

Lawrence is set to take on the central role of Joy Mangano, in a movie that chronicles her struggle to become a successful entrepreneurs. And Russell says that this will be a very different project for both him and his leading lady.

Speaking to The Playlist, the director said: "It's set in the '80s and '90s, but I'm going to take a different approach musically than I've ever taken before.

"I aspire to make an unexpected movie, both for myself and for Jennifer. It's about a woman... what's inside her."

While Lawrence is the only official member on the Joy cast list, both Robert De Niro and Bradley Cooper - who have worked with Russell on multiple occasions are linked to roles in the film.

Silver Linings Playbook was Lawrence's first collaboration with Russell, and she went on to scoop the Best Actress Oscar in 2013 for her fantastic central performance.

She almost made it two Oscars in a row when she bagged a Best Supporting Actress nomination earlier this year for American Hustle; she went on to lose out to Lupita Nyong'o for 12 Years A Slave.

Joy is set to be the next picture for the pair, and cameras could start rolling as early as February next year. However, no official release date for the movie has yet been announced.
