Justin Lin has taken to Twitter to release the first image from the third Star Trek movie and seemingly confirmed that the movie will be called Star Trek Beyond.

Filming has just got underway on the third Star Trek movie and sees Lin take over the director's chair from J.J. Abrams.

And the director has taken to Twitter to tease the fans with the very first image from the set:

Abrams was forced to step away from the helm of the Star Trek franchise to work on Star Wars - however, he will serve as producer on the film.

Star Trek Beyond will come three years after the success of Star Trek Into Darkness and will see Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto reunite as Captain Kirk and Spock.

There are a whole host of familiar faces on board as Zoe Saldana, Simon Pegg, Karl Urban, Anton Yelchin, and John Cho are back as Uhura, Scotty, Bones, Chekov, and Sulu.

It has not yet been announced who will be the big new additions to the cast list - but Idris Elba has been linked to a role in the film for quite some time.

Star Trek Beyond may be the first time that Lin has directed a film in this franchise but he is no stranger to the big budget blockbuster - he already has Fast & Furious 5 and 6 under his belt.

Star Trek Beyond is released 8th July 2016 in the U.S. A UK release date has yet to be announced.
