Katie Holmes is set to make her directorial debut with an adaptation of All We Had.

All We Had is based on the book by Annie Weatherwax, and will be adapted for the big screen by Josh Boone: who is on board as producer alongside Holmes and Jane Rosenthal.

Holmes will also star in the film as a mother who is living on the verge of poverty with her young daughter.

Speaking to Variety.com, Holmes talked about how much she is looking forward to tackling the project.

"I am very excited and honoured to be collaborating with Jane and Josh on this project and look so forward to bringing Annie's incredible characters to the screen."

Holmes has already served as producer on a couple of film projects, but this will be her biggest behind the camera step she has made in her career so far.

She will be back on the big screen next week as she stars in the adaptation of The Giver, alongside Jeff Bridges, Meryl Streep and Benton Thwaites.

Holmes has also completed work on Miss Meadows - in which she will take on the title role - and Mania Days.

The actress is currently working on Woman In Gold with Ryan Reynolds and filmmaker Simon Curtis.
