Kevin Macdonald

Kevin Macdonald says he wanted to make ‘different’ kind of teen movie with How I Live Now.

Macdonald returns to the director’s chair in what is his first live action film since The Eagle; documentary Marley was his last movie.

How I Live Now is a film that starts out, as a teenage love story but suddenly goes down a different and darker path and it was this different spin on the teen film that attracted him to the project.

Speaking to us here at FemaleFirst the director said: "I wanted to make a teen movie that was very different from other teen movies, and it wasn't an America idea of what teenageness was like. I broke some of the taboos of what the glossy, American teen movie is like."

How I Live Now is a big screen adaptation of the popular novel of the same name by Meg Rosoff and has been written for the big screen by Tony Grisoni, Jeremy Brock and Penelope Skinner.

Macdonald has brought together a talented young cast for the film including Saoirse Ronan, George MacKay and Tom Holland.
