Kirsten Dunst has admitted that she is interested in making the leap into the director's chair.

Dunst has endured an acting career that has spanned over twenty years, which has sees her star in films such as Spider Man, Melancholia and Marie Antoinette.

But now it seems that the actress has directing in her sights at some point in her career.

Speaking to Harper's Bazaar magazine, the actress said: "I would love it. I love getting immersed in things and being busy all the time."

"I'm not interested in directing right now. Maybe in three years. Who knows? Maybe I'll have children then. I probably will - one day - want to try it."

And while she may turn her hand to filmmaking, it seems that writing an original script is not be in her plans.

"It's just that I'm not going to write my own script. I don't think I can, I honestly don't. It would be easier to find a book to adapt."

Dunst will return to the big screen next month when she stars alongside Viggo Mortensen and Oscar Isaac.

The movie is based on the novel by Patricia Highsmith, and will see Hossein Amini in the director's chair for his feature film debut.

Dunst has also completed work on Midnight Special with Joel Edgerton and Adam Driver.
