Dunst insists she would rather star in a "unique" project that people study and talk about for years to come than a big budget Hollywood film.

She said: "I'm trying to build a career. Make films that are unique. I would rather be in something like 'Melancholia' that people study in a film class than be in a blockbuster."

Kirsten can next be seen in Rodarte founders Kate and Laura Mulleavy's debut film 'Woodshock' and found the shoot incredibly difficult.

She told Britain's InStyle magazine of the movie: "They will freak if I say anything.

"It was the hardest thing I've ever done, that's for sure.

"I came home from that shoot and I wasn't myself for a while. I had to just chill, drink wine and watch turn-off-my-brain TV."

Kate and Laura wrote Kirsten's role especially for her because of her "vibrancy and energy".

Laura said: "We wrote that role for Kirsten because she has a vibrancy and energy that comes across on-camera and off.

"She's a very careful, thoughtful actress. When she comes to set, she's been preparing emotionally for a long time."
