Lili Taylor has heaped praise on director James Wan for not using CGI effects on new horror movie The Conjuring.

The movie is based on a true story of a family that is terrorised by a presence in their home.

Taylor is set to take on the role of Carolyn Perron, while Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson play the paranormal investigators that they call in to help.

Speaking to the Press Association the actress said: "I came in thinking we had the ingredients for a really great horror movie because I love scary movies, but they are not done well a lot.

"I just thought wow, [James Wan] is going practical effects on this, he's not doing any CGI, it's all imagination."

"It's our imagination, that's where it's at. It's the thing we can't see... I think James is so smart, it's just glimmers, he just gives us little glimmers."

Wan is no stranger to the horror genre have delivered Saw and Insidious in recent year; we will be seeing Insidious 2 in the autumn.

The Conjuring is released 2nd August.
