Evans is set to take on the role of Gaston in the live-action version of the popular Disney animated film. And while all the tracks were pre-recorded, Evans reveals that he was also keen to sing live during the filming process.

Speaking to Collider, the actor said: "We pre-recorded every, but some of us sang live on set as well, during the takes. We were mic'd and they recorded that and I think afterwards, in sound, they'll be able to chose whether the live version is better than the pre-recorded version. We'll never know!

"But I'm a singer, so I've always been used to singing live on stage, doing eight shows a week for a year or more. So I'm very used to not miming. I've never mimed in my life, so I didn't mime, I sang full out every take to my own voice in the background. So did Josh [Gad]. Josh and I really loved every minute of it, we're proper theatre lovers, me and Josh."

Beauty and the Beast is set to hit the big screen in 2017 and sees Evans team up with filmmaker Bill Condon for the first time. A fantastic cast has been assembled for the film as Emma Watson and Dan Stevens take on the roles of Belle and the Beast.

The trio are joined by Ewan McGregor, Emma Thompson, Ian McKellen, Stanley Tucci, Kevin Kline, Josh Gad, and Gugu Mbatha-Raw.

We have already been treated to live action remakes of Cinderella and Maleficent in recent years and The Jungle Book is another Disney film that is also on the horizon.

As for Evans, he will be back on the big screen with his new movie High-Rise, which see him star alongside Tom Hiddleston, Jeremy Irons, and Sienna Miller. The movie is an adaptation of the J.G. Ballard novel and sees Ben Wheatley back in the director's chair.

Evans has been at the Toronto International Film Festival promoting the film, which will also be playing at the BFI London Film Festival next month.

Beauty and the Beast is released 17th March 2017.
