Luke Evans says it was very 'satisfying' to see the final rooftop scenes of Bard in The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies, because of the journey and the transformation that the character goes through in these two movies.

We were introduced to the character of Bard last year in The Desolation of Smaug, where he was just a bargeman, but through these two movies, this character has turned into quite the hero. And Evans admits that the rooftop scenes are the ones that he has really been waiting to see.

Speaking to Flicks and Bits, the actor said: "He wasn't a hero when I first read him on the page; he was just the lonely bargeman. I, and readers of the book, knew what he was capable of, and what he ended up doing in this film. But, when I started playing him, all those years ago, he was a father of three, without a wife, with a long journey ahead of him.

"So, it was very satisfying to see the final look of the rooftop sequence, which was the first thing I ever shot. Peter put me on wires and sent me up the rooftop for days. I've waited a long time to see that (laughs)!"

Evans is just one of the familiar faces returning to Battle of the Five Armies - the third and final film in The Hobbit trilogy - as he reunites with director Peter Jackson. The movie hits the big screen at the end of the week and promises to be the most epic instalment yet.

The movie will follow Bilbo has dwarves, elves and men are forced to unite the battle the army of Sauron, which has descended on the Lonely Mountain. Martin Freeman, Ian McKellen, Richard Armitage, Orlando Bloom, and Evangeline Lilly are just some of the other great names on board.

As for Evans, it has been a busy 2014, as he starred in Dracula Untold earlier this autumn. He has also completed wok on High-Rise and short film Fast & Furious: Supercharged - where he reprises the role of Shaw.

High-Rise will hit the big screen next year, and it an adaptation of the novel by J. G Ballard and directed by Ben Wheatley. The movie will see Evans star alongside Tom Hiddleston, Jeremy Irons, James Purefoy, and Sienna Miller.

It has also been suggested by the actor earlier this week that he could be on the verge of walking away from the central role of Eric Draven in the remake of The Crow, due to delays in getting filming underway.

The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies is released 12th December.
