Black Widow has been part of the MCU since she was introduced in Iron Man 2. However, despite calls from fans, there is still no solo film on the schedule.

But this is not something that sits well with Ruffalo - who has starred alongside Scarlett Johansson in Avengers Assemble and Avengers: Age of Ultron - and he admits he wants to see his past explored.

Speaking to Digital Spy, the actor said: "I'd like to see her whole beginning story that we hear about [in Avengers: Age of Ultron]." Ruffalo references a scene between Black Widow and Banner where she reveals a small part of what happened to her as a young woman.

"It's so fascinating, her being raised from the very beginning as just a killing deception machine, and how she comes to be with [the Avengers] and how she finds her morality. It would be amazing."

Black Widow is not the only MCU character with no solo film, there is no solo Hulk film on the horizon either - despite more calls from fans.

However, we are going to see Ruffalo and the character of Bruce Banner move out of the Avengers franchise for the first time to star in Thor: Ragnarok.

Filming is set to get underway later this year and will see Ruffalo reunite with Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston, who are set to reprise the roles of Thor and Loki.

Thor: Ragnarok is the third solo Thor film and will see Taika Waititi take over the director's chair of the franchise for the first time; following in the footsteps of Kenneth Branagh and Alan Taylor.

Ruffalo is not the only new face on the Thor cast list as Cate Blanchett, Jeff Goldblum, and Karl Urban are also on board.

Thor: Ragnarok is released 27th October 2017.
