Martin Freeman has hinted that you don't know which side his character is on in Captain America: Civil War.

Freeman is one of the new faces that we are going to be seeing on the Civil War cast list next year... but it is yet to be revealed who he will be playing in the highly anticipated Marvel film.

It has been suggested that he would take on the role of Everett Ross - a character from the Black Panther comic book - but we are going to have to wait and see when Marvel finally confirms his role.

However, Freeman has shed a little bit of light on the type of character that he'll be playing and says that his role is an ambiguous one.

Speaking with Italian website BadTaste,it, the actor said: "He works for the American government. He works in conjunction with the superheroes, and certain agencies that help to tame the superheroes' power, I suppose. So you're not quite sure which side he's on. It looks a little bit like he's playing one game when actually he's playing another.

"It's the kind of character I like because it's ambiguous and because you don't know whether he's good or bad. I like that area that isn't black or white, I like the grays, because I think there's just more fun to be had in not playing one obvious line."

Civil War will be the first time that we will see Freeman step into a Marvel movie and I really cannot wait to see him join this ever expanding universe. However, he is no stranger to the big budget blockbuster with The Hobbit movies already under his belt.

Civil War will see Anthony and Joe Russo - who directed The Winter Soldier - back in the director's chair, while Chris Evans returns as Steve Rodgers. He will be joined on the cast list by the familiar faces of Scarlett Johansson, Anthony Mackie, and Sebastian Stan.

The likes of Robert Downey Jr, Paul Rudd, Elizabeth Olsen, Jeremy Renner, and Paul Bettany will all be appearing in the Captain America franchise for the first time. We are also going to get our first look at Chadwick Boseman and Tom Holland as Black Panther and Spider-Man.

Captain America: Civil War is released 29th April 2016.
