There has been unhappiness from fans that Black Widow, who has been played by Scarlett Johansson since Iron Man 2 in 2010, has not yet been given a solo film - despite the fact that movies have been announced for the next three years.

But it looks like one could well be on the horizon after the current programme of movies has been completed at the end of 2019.

Speaking to Deadline, Feige said: "We've announced the next nine movies, 10 counting Civil War, through the end of 2019.

"Where we go beyond that are ongoing discussions that we'll focus on in the next few years because we have a lot to do before then.

"Of the characters that you've just mentioned [Falcon, War Machine, Black Widow and Hawkeye], I would say certainly the one creatively and emotionally that we are most committing to doing is Black Widow."

Johansson is back as Black Widow in Captain America: Civil War, which is the second time that we have seen her star in a standalone Captain America film. She will be back in Avengers: Infinity War.

The movie has already grossed over $678 million and is one course to be one of the biggest movies of the year.

We are going to be treated to a whole host of Marvel films going forward as Doctor Strange will be released in the autumn. Next year, three films will hit the big screen as Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2, Spider-Man: Homecoming, and Thor: Ragnarok will be released.
