Marvel and Sony Pictures are believed to be in talks to allow Spider Man to join the Avengers franchise.

Spider Man was a character that featured regularly in the Avengers comic, but it was suggested that he may not make an appearance in the films because Marvel Studios don't own the film rights to the character.

However, it looks like common sense has prevailed and could see the two studios come together to make this a possibility - which is something that would be very popular with Marvel and Avengers fans.

According to EW, the companies are in "delicate preliminary conversations" and the future of this collaboration is still far from clear.

Spider Man is now in its second big screen incarnation with Andrew Garfield taking over the role of Peter Parker back in 2012.

That same year, the Avengers hit the big screen for the first time, and enjoyed billion dollar success at the box office. Avengers Assemble remains the most successful superhero movie to date.

2015 will see Iron Man, Thor, Captain America, Black Widow, Hulk, and Hawkeye will reunite to save the world once more.

This is not the first time that a potential Spider Man/Avengers crossover has been mentioned, as Garfield has been very public about his desire to be able to join the superhero team.

Sony announced earlier in 2014 that they were going to expand the Spider Man universe. Venom and Sinister Six projects are in the pipeline and set to hit the big screen in 2016.

As for Avengers: Age of Ultron, it is set to be one of the most successful films of next year, as James Spader, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Elizabeth Olsen, and Paul Bettany all join the cast.
