Matt Damon could be set to return to the role of Jason Bourne in the fifth instalment of the franchise.

It was reported earlier this week that the fifth film has been pushed back to 2016, and that Jeremy Renner would be reprising the role of Aaron Cross.

We haven't seen Damon take on the role of Bourne since The Bourne Ultimatum back in 2007, and the actor had claimed he would not return to the franchise without director Paul Greengrass.

However, Latino Review has reported that it's because Damon has agreed to return to his signature role under the direction of 'Fast and Furious' filmmaker Justin Lin.

This would be the first Bourne film that Lin will have helmed, but he is not stranger to the blockbuster film, with the Fast & Furious franchise under his belt.

Earlier this year, Universal hired 'Sherlock Holmes' scribe Anthony Peckham to write a script for the new 'Bourne' film.

It was 2012 when Renner took on the role of Cross in The Bourne Legacy, with Rachel Weisz and Edward Norton.

Will this film see Damon & Renner share the big screen?
