Kingsman: the Secret Service was one of the unexpected big hits of 2015 and saw Vaughn back in the director's chair for the first time since X-Men: First Class. The movie also saw him reunite with Jane Goldman to pen the screenplay; the film is based on the comic book The Secret Service by Mark Millar and Dave Gibbons.

And while the film was a huge success, Vaughn says it took some time to decide whether or not he would return to direct. Speaking to Empire about the film, Vaughn also revealed that the new film will be called Kingsman: The Golden Circle.

He said: "I didn't know if I wanted to direct this or not. I was worried about the villain. Spy films are only as good as their villains. Then one morning I woke up with the whole storyline in place, and a new villain plot."

Filming on Kingsman: The Golden Circle is due to get under way next month and will see Taron Egerton reprise the central role of Eggsy. Mark Strong is also set to return as Merlin while Julianne Moore and Halle Berry are the big new additions to the cast list.

Kingsman: The Secret Service was released at the beginning of 2015 and went on to gross over $414 million at the global box office - making it one of the biggest sleeper hits of the year. I have to admit, it was one of my favourite films of last year as well.

And while the church scene was one of the film's most memorable moments, the director says he is going to deliver other sequences that we have never seen before.

He continued: "You try not to read what people want, but they do want another church sequence. I have no reason for another massacre to happen. But I have other sequences you've never seen before."

Kingsman: The Golden Circle will be the first time that we have seen Vaughn in the director's chair since the success of the first film.

The movie is set for a June 16th 2017 release in America but no UK release date has yet been announced.
