Christian Bale

Christian Bale has described Moses as the most 'extreme' film character that he has ever tackled.

Bale is back on the big screen this week as he leads the cast in Exodus: Gods and Kings, a movie that sees him team up with director Ridley Scott for the first time.

And the Oscar winning actor reveals that this character altered the way he behave on set and he found portraying Moses more difficult than playing Patrick Bateman in American Psycho.

Speaking to Notebook magazine, the actor said: "Moses is the most extreme character I've ever played. Because of that I actually changed the way I behaved on set. I kind of kept to myself, because I find it very difficult to get to know people too well and then play a character.

"I thought: 'I've got to turn him on and off because he's too much.' You know, I played Patrick Bateman in 'American Psycho' where I stayed in character, but Moses is way more extreme than Patrick Bateman."

Exodus: Gods and Kings follows Moses as he rises up against Pharoah Ramses and leads 600,000 slaves out of Egypt. Joel Edgerton will take on the role of Ramses in the film, while Ben Kingsley, Sigourney Weaver, and Aaron Paul make up a very exciting cast list.

Exodus: Gods and Kings is the first directorial outing for Scott since The Counselor last year, and is a movie that has already topped the box office in America.

This is the third outing for Bale this year after finding success in American Hustle and Out of the Furnace - the former saw him receive his first Best Actor Oscar nomination. Bale is set to return to the big screen with two Terrence Malick movies next year.

Exodus: Gods and Kings is released 26th December.
