Koch Films have released the trailer for brand-new supernatural horror, where a young boy makes a monumental mistake and puts himself and others in immediate danger…
Horror films have the ability to make us sit on the edge of our seats, pull our blankets up close and keep a light on; however, upcoming movie The Djinn is set to have you doing all this and more, perhaps even checking your locks twice over.
Rob Brownstein stars in this thriller as Dylan’s father, and has had a rather successful career, appearing in films such as Argo (2012), At the Devil’s Door (2014), and Beautiful & Twisted (2015).
The story follows a mute 12-year-old boy named Dylan Jacobs (Ezra Dewey), who discovers a mysterious book of spells in his new apartment. Dylan grieves for his late mother, and the only person he feels any connection to is his father (Brownstein).
Dylan performs a ritual in his home that promises to give him what he wants most: a voice. However, the young boy quickly learns that his wish has caused a deadly djinn to come into his house in order to collect his soul.
Now, poor Dylan is trapped in his apartment with nowhere to hide; if he can avoid being caught by the sinister creature that is the djinn he gets to walk away with his life. If he is captured before midnight, he will have the pay the highest price…
The eerie trailer shows Dylan as a rather desperate young boy, and while you wouldn’t assume a ritual would work, he attempts one anyway. It’s clear that Dylan is a calm, respectful person who viewers may not want to place blame on, because who would think a satanic ritual would really work?
We see Dylan trapped in his bathroom after attempting to break free of the apartment with a hammer. The glass on the window does not shatter; it simply cracks and suggests that the djinn will not let him leave without payment…
We also see, while the terrified boy is in the bathroom, the hand of a ghoul which we can assume to be the djinn; we also see a human hand. It could be that Dylan’s late mother is the one to come and collect her son’s soul, or perhaps the father isn’t who he appears to be.
This film seems to combine silence with death and a deadly creature, which is the perfect mixture for a horror movie.
The Djinn will be in UK cinemas on Friday, September 24th 2021; a digital release of the feature will be available the following Monday (September 27th, 2021).
