Noah has seen off the challenge from Divergent to top the U.S. box office.

Noah sees Darren Aronofsky return to the director's chair and team up with Russell Crowe for the first time: Crowe takes on the title role.

While the film may have been banned in some territories, it took $44 million in its first weekend to bag the #1 spot in the U.S.

Divergent - which was last week's number one - didn't even come close to hanging on for a second week, as it took $26.5 million.

The latest piece of young adult fiction to be adapted for the big screen, slipped just a single place to two.

Muppets Most Wanted, Mr Peabody and Sherman and God's Not Dead all fell just one place to round out the top five.

The Grand Budapest Hotel was the only movie on the top this weekend, as it jumped up a single place from seven to six.

Sabotage sees Arnold Schwarzenegger return to the big screen, in the second and final entry inside the top ten this week.

Sabotage is the latest crime drama from director David Ayer, and sees Sam Worthington, Joe Manganiello and Terrence Howard also star.

The movie only managed to gross $5.3 million, and opened at number seven.

Need For Speed was down two this week at eight, while 300: Rise of an Empire was the biggest faller. The sequel to 300 was down four places at nine.

Former #1 Non-Stop was down two spots this week, as it completed the top ten.
