Oblivion

Oblivion has stormed to the top of the U.S. box office toppling biopic 42.

Oblivion sees Tom Cruise back on the big screen as he teams up with director Joseph Kosinski for the first time.

The movie took $38.1 million over the weekend to comfortably see off the rest of the competition.

42 slid just a single place as it's second week gross of $18 million could not compete with Oblivion for the #1 spot.

There was no move for The Croods at three as the success of the movie continues. It has already taken in excess of $427 million worldwide and a sequel is believed to be in the pipeline.

Scary Movie 5 was down two places at number four while G.I. Joe: Retaliation fell just one to round off the top five.

The Place Beyond The Pines went up for the second consecutive week as it made the jump from ten to six.

There was no move for Gerard Butler's action movie Olympus Has Fallen at seven while former #1 Evil Dead was down three at eight.

Jurassic Par 3D fell three places at nine while Oz The Great and Powerful was also down as it dropped from eight to ten.
