Rumours have been swirling for some time that Bloom would be reuniting with his old pal Johnny Depp for the fifth instalment of the popular pirate franchise. However, there had been no word from Disney... until now.

During Disney's D23 Expo over the weekend they confirmed that Bloom was indeed set to be on the cast list. There is still no news on where he is going to fit into the film.

Bloom was one of the major characters in the first three films of the franchise but, along with Keira Knightley, was not involved in On Stranger Tides, which was released in 2011 and was the last Pirates of the Caribbean film to hit the big screen.

Dead Men Tell No Tales will see Bloom star alongside Depp once more - he is back in the central role of Captain jack Sparrow - as well as reunite with Geoffrey Rush, who is back as Barbossa.

A great cast has been assembled for the new film as Javier Bardem, Brenton Thwaites, Kaya Scodelario, and David Wenham are all set to star. Stephen Graham and Levin McNally are some of the other familiar faces returning as they reprise the roles of Scrum and Gibbs.

Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg have taken over the director's chair of this franchise for the first time and this will be the biggest film of their careers to date.

Filming has now bee completed and the cast and crew have been working in Australia for most of the year. However, we still have a two year wait until Dead Men Tell No Tales hits the big screen.

As for Bloom, we haven't seen him on the big screen since the success of The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies at the end of last year. The actor has also finished work on Unlocked, which sees him team up with Michael Douglas, Noomi Rapace, and director Michael Apted.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales is released 7th July 2017.
