Dano is set to return to the big screen next month for the new music biopic film, which follows the career of Beach Boys leader Brian Wilson, who struggled with mental problems.

The movie is set in two specific time periods of Wilson's life: the 1960s and the 1980s and sees Dano and John Cusack play a younger and older version of the musician.

And Dano reveals that he was pulled into the project by the script and didn't know as much about the Brian Wilson story as he first thought.

Speaking to Screen Rant, the actor said: "You know, I knew the music and I thought I knew a little bit about Brian, but when I read the script, I was like, 'Whoa.' You know, the story - there's so much struggle, so much pain behind music that made so many people smile.

"I was like, 'Wow.' I really felt like there was a story to tell and I was very excited by that and I was very moved by it. And then I became obsessed - I mean, proper obsessed with the music. Pet Sounds and Smile, I mean, I still - I think it's some of the best music ever made, so I was lucky to get in there and have some fun with that."

Love & Mercy sees Dano team up with director Bill Pohlad, while Elizabeth Banks, Paul Giamatti, and Jake Abel are just some of the other names on the cast list.

The movie has already been received with acclaim on the festival circuit - premiering in the Special Presentations section of the Toronto International Film Festival last year. It is set to be a breath of fresh air this summer and a great alternative to all of the blockbusters films.

As for Dano, we are going to be seeing him on the small screen with his new project as he is set to star in a new adaptation of War and Peace for TV. Dano is set to take on the role of Pierre Bezukhov in the series, alongside Aneurin Barnard and Lily James.

Love & Mercy is released 10th July.
