Prisoners has topped the UK box office, toppling Rush from the top spot.

Prisoners sees Hugh Jackman and Jake Gyllenhaal team up for the first time in a tense and harrowing drama about two abducted children.

The movie took over £1.3 million to comfortably take the top spot. Rush fell just a single place to number two.

Blue Jasmine and Runner Runner were the last of the new entries on the chart this week as they opened at three and four.

Former number one Insidious: Chapter 2 fell three places this week as it rounded off the top five.

About Time dropped out of the top five this week as the comedy fell two places from four to six.

White House Down was one of the biggest fallers on the chart as it dropped four places from three to seven. Diana was another four place faller as it dropped from five to nine.

Monsters University was back inside the top ten by the end of this weekend.

The latest Pixar movie has already had a fantastic summer, but jumped up five places to round off the top ten.
