It was announced earlier this year that Prometheus 2 was set to go ahead and Scott would return to the director's chair for the science fiction sequel. However, Scott had not confirmed when this movie was going to go into production.

Now it seems the project isn't that far away as Scott revealed that Prometheus 2 is set to be his next directing project.

He let this new slip in an interview with Empire, where he was talking about his latest film The Martian alongside actor Matt Damon.

When discussing The Martian, another sci-fi film, Damon said: "Ridley was done with the movie about two weeks after we shot."

Scott replied: "I was already on to my next movie. I was starting to look for locations for my next movie, which is Prometheus 2."

While there is no official word on who we will be seeing on the cast list for the film, we are expecting Noomi Rapace and Michael Fassbender to reprise the roles of Elizabeth Shaw and David.

Prometheus 2 is currently slated for a 2017 release and we would expect filming to get underway early next year.

Scott will be back at the end of September with his new film The Martian, which is based on the best selling book of the same name by Andy Weir.

The movie is already being tipped as a possible Oscar contender and will follow in the footsteps of Gravity and Interstellar as a must see space film for the autumn.

Damon is set to take on the central role of astronaut Mark Watney, who is left behind on Mars when a mission goes wrong and he is presumed dead. Jessica Chastain, Kate Mara, Kristen Wiig, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Jeff Daniels are just some of the other names that are on board.
