The 70-year-old actor played the iconic John Rambo in the franchise's four movies, but will not reprise his role for the upcoming reboot 'Rambo: New Blood'.

Millennium Films is plotting the reboot of the popular 1980s action film franchise, and have tapped Brooks McLaren to pen the script, and Ariel Vromen to take up directorial duties.

The company is looking to find an actor who can transform the titular character into one akin to the likes of James Bond according to The Hollywood Reporter, and are opting for a younger star in place of Stallone.

John Rambo was the lead character in the 1972 novel 'First Blood', written by David Morrell. The book was adapted into a film of the same name in 1982, starring Stallone as the Vietnam war veteran.

The franchise then spawned sequels 'Rambo: First Blood Part II' in 1985 and 'Rambo III' in 1988. Whilst the former was a box office hit, the latter of the two flopped when it hit screens, and the character subsequently lay dormant until Stallone revived him for the 2008 movie simply entitled 'Rambo'.

As far was 'Rambo: New Blood' is concerned, no plot details have been revealed as the production is still in the early stages of development.

There are also no casting announcements, shoot dates, or release dates for the new project as of yet.
