This week, 20th Century Fox dropped a brilliant new featurette in celebration of their new movie Red Sparrow. Titled ‘A Spy Story’, the video delves into the world of espionage and looks at some of the unique spy craft techniques revealed in the film, whether it be sexual blackmail, dead drops, safe houses, or good old fashioned financial blackmail. Red Sparrow sees Jennifer Lawrence take on the role of Dominika Egorova, a woman drafted against her will to become a trained “sparrow” in the Russian security service. Learning to use her body as a weapon and maintaining her personality and sense of humanity despite the dehumanising training process she’s forced to go through, Dominika finds power in an unfair system.
Emerging as one of the biggest assets of the company, Dominika is given her first assignment, and sets off to target CIA officer Nate Nash (Joel Edgerton), a man who handles the CIA’s most sensitive infiltration of Russian intelligence.
Falling for one another against their unique backdrop, the two use their deception to get the upper hand during their lengthy battle, with their careers consistently on the line as well as the security of their respective home countries.
Francis Lawrence serves as director on the film, with Justin Haythe having written the screenplay, based on the novel of the same name by Jason Matthews. Peter Chernin and Steve Zaillan produce Red Sparrow, with the all-star cast also including Jeremy Irons, Matthias Schoenaerts, Mary-Louise Parker and Charlotte Rampling.
Red Sparrow is out in cinemas across the UK now.
