Directed by Francis Lawrence, who’s working on a screenplay by Justin Haythe comes Red Sparrow, based on the novel of the same name by former CIA officer Jason Matthews. Peter Chernin and Steve Zaillan serve as producers on the movie, with Jennifer Lawrence leading the cast and starring alongside the likes of Joel Edgerton, Matthias Schoenaerts, Jeremy Irons, Mary-Louise Parker and Charlotte Rampling.

This week, 20th Century Fox have dropped a brilliant new trailer and poster for the film, both of which you can check out below:

Lawrence plays Dominika Egorova in the film; a woman who has enjoyed a life as a ballerina, but who is eventually drafted against her will to become a “sparrow”. Trained to use her seductive ways in the Russian security service to gain intelligence, Dominika uses her body as a weapon, but begins to lose her sense of self throughout the training process. The system she’s forced to become a part of is an unfair one, but as she finds her power within she finally emerges as one of the strongest assets the company has ever had.

First targeting CIA officer Nate Nash (Edgerton) – who handles his agency’s most sensitive infiltration of Russian intelligence – her work quickly turns to pleasure, as the pair fall into a whirlwind of attraction and deception, threatening their careers, where their alliances lie and the security of their respective countries.

In the trailer, we see the vicious ways in which Dominika is brought into the world of spies, and whilst it’s not a road she may have particularly wanted to travel down, she’s a natural when it comes time to put up or shut up. In a game of literal life or death, she has some big choices to make. We can’t wait to watch it all go down on the big screen this March.

Red Sparrow comes to cinemas across the UK on March 2, 2018.
