Robert Downey Jr says Captain America: Civil War will still be very much the story of Steve Rogers, despite Tony Stark set to play a big role in the new film.

Downey Jr is set to reprise the role of Stark/Iron Man as he appears in a Captain America movie for the first time. The new movie will explore the popular Civil War comic book storyline, which will see Rogers and Stark on opposite sides of the Superhero Registration Act argument.

And while we are going to be seeing plenty of familiar face on the cast list, Downey Jr says it is still about Rogers. He also hints that we may see a different side to the Captain in the upcoming film.

Speaking to Empire, the actor said: Ultimately it's [Captain America/Steve Rogers's] story; it doesn't say 'Iron Man 4: Civil War'. I think that's great too.

"I think Chris [Evans] has been hungry to bring even more of an underside and some shadow to that. I remember the comics - on the surface you got the sense that Cap was baseball and apple pie, but underneath there was all this churning stuff of being a man out of time.

"Now we know he's made his peace with that. What's the bigger issue? It can have a little something to do with the past, but it can be about someone becoming more modernised in their own conflict."

Civil War will see Anthony and Joe Russo return to the director's chair for their second Captain America film - the duo steered Winter Soldier to critical and commercial success last year.

As well as Evans and Downey Jr returning to the roles of Captain America and Iron Man, the movie will also see Scarlett Johansson, Anthony Mackie, and Sebastian Stan back as Black Widow, Falcon, and the Winter Soldier.

Filming is set to get underway later this year for a spring 2016 release. However, before we see Downey Jr and Evans suit up for the third Captain America film, we will see them team up once again in Avengers: Age of Ultron.

Captain America: Civil War is released 29th April 2016.
