Robert Downey Jr has hinted that he may carry on playing Iron Man in future movies.

Downey Jr is set to reprise the role next year with Avengers: Age of Ultron, but it was still uncertain as to whether he would return for another solo Iron Man film.

Downey Jr completed his contract with the release of Iron Man 3, and there has been much speculation about the franchise's future since the release of that successful film.

However, it looks like Downey Jr could have shed a little light on it in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter. He said: "I'm sure we'll ride that thing. You've got to surf that all the way in to shore."

He added: "I think I was at the forefront of something that was coming into being, and I think it has carried me as much as I have informed it.

"That's the healthy way to look at it. It's so easy to become inflated by the successes, but what they really are are long, strong trends. It's just another wave."

Downey Jr took on the role of Iron Man for the first time back in 2008, returning in Iron Man 2, Iron Man 3 and Avengers Assemble.

Avengers Assemble and Iron Man 3 have both broke the $1 billion barrier at the global box office. Iron Man 3 was the biggest grossing movie of 2013.

Avengers: Age of Ultron will see Downey Jr reunite with Scarlett Johansson, Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo & Jeremy Renner, as they return as Black Widow, Captain America, Thor, Hulk, and Hawkeye.
