Robert Downey Jr has hinted that he would be up for reprising the role of Tony Stark in a fourth Iron Man movie.

The solo film future for Iron Man has been uncertain since the release of Iron Man 3 - which went on to gross over a billion dollars at the box office.

However, now it seems that Downey Jr could appear in Iron Man 4 should the opportunity arise.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, the actor said: "It’s down to Kevin [Feige] and Ike [Perlmutter, CEO of Marvel Entertainment] and Disney to come to us with what the proposal is, and that’s on us to agree or disagree. When things are going great, there’s a lot of agreement.

"Right now, this [Avengers 2] has just been swell, hasn’t it? This has been a really good one and it feels good and we’re having a good time.

"It’s that thing of: Why give up the belt when it feels like you can barely get jabbed?"

Downey Jr will be back as Iron Man next summer as he reunites with Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo and Jeremy Renner for Avengers: Age of Ultron.

Age of Ultron is the second Avengers film, and is already one of the most anticipated movies of 2015.

Marvel has also released 5 new release dates - two in 2017, two in 2018, and one in 2019 - however, the movies that will go in those slots have not been confirmed.
