Rooney Mara is hopeful about making a sequel to 'The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo'.

The actress earned an Oscar nomination for her portrayal of Lisbeth Salander in David Fincher's English-language adaptation of Stieg Larsson's critically acclaimed novel in 2011, but studio Sony Pictures has yet to move forward with a long-planned follow-up - 'The Girl Who Played with Fire' - despite green-lighting the movie in early 2012.

Mara told MTV News: "I hope that they make the second one. I'm just not sure when they're going to. I mean, I hope they make it soon because I'm not getting any younger. The second one is very physical, so hopefully they'll be making it sooner rather than later."

The films are based on Larsson's best-selling crime novel trilogy about an intelligent computer hacker who unites with journalist Mikael Blomkvist - played by Daniel Craig - to uncover a major conspiracy.

Sony originally had 'Dragon Tattoo' writer Steve Zaillian write the sequel script, but recently hired 'Se7en' scribe Andrew Kevin Walker to write a new version, which isn't expected to be as loyal to Larsson's source material as the first screenplay.

Both Mara and Craig signed on to star in three movies when they made the 2011 original, but it's not known whether director David Fincher will return to helm the flicks.

Fincher will next direct 'Gone Girl', an adaptation of Gillian Flynn's best-selling novel.
