Rose Byrne is set to return to the X-Men franchise as she will reprise the role of Moira MacTaggert in X-Men: Apocalypse.

We were introduced to the character of MacTaggert back in X-Men: First Class, but Byrne was not part of the cast list of X-Men: Days of Future Past. But now she is set to return.

Simon Kinberg revealed that latest addition to the cast list during a chat with Entertainment Weekly and gave a little hint as to what we can expect from this character.

He said: "She's a significant character in the movie. We ended First Class with Charles having wiped portions of her memory of her experience with the X-Men. They are, essentially, strangers to her when she meets them...

"It's certainly a rich relationship that we started to dig into in First Class, and would like to mine more in this one."

X-Men: Apocalypse will see Byrne reunite with Jennifer Lawrence, James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, and Nicholas Hoult, while she will team up with director Bryan Singer for the first time.

There are some new faces also on the cast list, as Oscar Isaac, Sophie Turner, Tye Sheridan, and Alexandra Shipp have been cast as Apocalypse, Jean Grey, Cyclops, and Storm.

We last saw Byrne on the big screen in musical Annie over Christmas, but will return with new comedy movie Spy. The movie will see her star alongside Melissa McCarthy, Jude Law, and Jason Statham.

X-Men: Apocalypse is released 19th May 2016.
