Gambit has always been one of my favourite X-Men characters but is one that has been absent for most of the movies in recent years.

However, a solo movie is on the horizon and Entertainment Weekly have reported that Rupert Wyatt is set to be in the director's chair for the film.

Channing Tatum has been on board as Gambit aka Remy LeBeau since last year - there are rumours that we will get our first look at the character in X-Men: Apocalypse next year.

That remains to be seen but it does look like the solo movie is moving along and is scheduled to hit the big screen at the back end of 2016.

Wyatt has brought us movies such as Subterrain and The Escapist during his career but it was his work on Rise of the Planet of the Apes back in 2011 that sent his star rocketing.

Wyatt delivered a movie that was a terrific mix of live action and wonderful CGI/motion capture and is a great choice to lead this blockbuster forward.

The Gambler was the last time that we saw Wyatt in the director's chair but now he is set to return with another big film project.

Joshua Zetumer is already aboard the movie and has penned the screenplay, while Tatum is the only member of the cast that has been officially announced. Tatum will also star as producer alongside long time collaborator Red Carolin. Simon Kinberg and Lauren Shuler Donner are also on board to produce.

This will be the first time that we have seen Gambit in the X-Men franchise since Taylor Kitsch took on the role in X-Men Origins: Wolverine back in 2009 - I don't know about you, but I am very excited to see this character back and I cannot wait to see what Tatum brings to this role.

There is still no word about the plot for the film or when shooting is likely to get underway. The movie currently has a 7th October 2016 U.S. release date. It has not been announced when the film will be released in the UK.
