Ryan Gosling’s directorial debut Lost River is one of the most anticipated of 2014, and Gosling has talked about the premise for the film for the first time.

Lost River - which was originally called How To Catch A Monster - will receive its premiere at the Cannes Film Festival later this year, and has been penned as well as directed by Gosling.

Until now, the plot for the film has been kept under wraps, but Gosling has now spoken about what we can expect from the film.

Speaking to The Film Stage, the actor said: “It’s about this family living in a town called Lost River, which is perhaps a place that was once full of family and happiness and love, and is now this town that’s slowly descending into a place without any hope.

“This family is holding onto the foundations of their house and everything they think they need to hold onto.”

Gosling may be a first time director but that has not stopped him from bring together a super talented cast: Christiana Hendricks, Saoirse Ronan, Eva Mendes, Matt Smith, Iain De Caestecker and Ben Mendelsohn are all set to star.

Lost River is set to be one of the most talked about and anticipated films at this year’s Cannes Film Festival: there has been a buzz around this movie ever since Gosling announced he was moving into the director’s chair.

However, there is still no word on a UK release date for the film.
