Reynolds is teaming up with 'Notting Hill' director Roger Michell for the new movie, which tells the story of a lonely advertising executive who has to spend Christmas working overtime.

Producers Lisa Wilson and Myles Nestel told Deadline: "John Kenney has adapted his genius novel beautifully and crafted a smart, funny, modern tale which analyses society's obsession with consumerism.

"His script is in safe hands with Roger Michell who previously explored our media-crazed culture in 'Notting Hill'.

"The charismatic Ryan Reynolds is perfect for the role of the everyday advertising executive trying to find his way in a confusing world."

Ryan is also starring in the eagerly-awaited new 'Deadpool' movie, and the actor is confident the character will thrive among a host of comic book films, including 'Captain America: Civil War' and 'X-Men: Apocalypse'.

He previously said: "I mean, Deadpool's greatest superpower is annoying the shit out of people.

"So I imagine that he would spark a heavy wave of ire from any one of those groups."

Ryan also rebuffed claims the 'Deadpool' movie is only being made because of his personal determination.

He said: "There's been a lot of talk about how I was instrumental in getting it made, which isn't true at all.

"I wouldn't say I spent every single day emailing the studio heads at Fox saying, 'You've got to make this movie'."
