Ryan Reynolds has revealed that Deadpool will not have the huge budgets that the X-Men movies have had in the past.

Reynolds is set to reprise the title role in the first standalone film for the character, which has started filming in Vancouver, Canada. We were introduced to this character for the first time back in 2009 in X-Men Origins: Wolverine and it has taken six years to get this film project up and running.

Deadpool is already one of the most anticipated comic book movies of 2016, but Reynolds says that it is going to be 'quite a small film.'

Speaking to the Independent newspaper, the actor said: "It's not like an X-Men movie where there's this gigantic budget. It's quite a small film. It's very difficult to weave that character into other comic movies. He knows he's in a comic book.

"If he met Wolverine, he'd greet him as Hugh Jackman. It's tough to create a meta-universe within another universe that doesn't have any of those components."

We have just under a year to wait until Deadpool hits the big screen and the movie will see Tim Miller make his feature film directorial debut with the project.

Reynolds is back as Wade Wilson and will be joined on the cast list by Morena Baccarin, Gina Carano, and T.J. Miller.

As for Reynolds, he has already enjoyed critical success this year with offbeat black comedy The Voices - in which he starred alongside Gemma Arterton and Anna Kendrick - and he is set to return with Woman In Gold.

Woman In Gold will see Reynolds team up with Oscar winner Helen Mirren for the first time, to tell the true story of a woman who took on the government to try and reclaim a piece of artwork that she believes belongs to her family.

Reynolds has also completed work on Self/less and Criminal and both will be released later this year. Self/less is the latest film from director Tarsem Singh and will see Ben Kingsley also star.

Criminal will see the actor team up with director Ariel Vromen for the crime drama, which will also star Gal Gadot, and Gary Oldman.

Deadpool is released 12th February.
