Sam Claflin says he didn't believe it when he was offered the role of Finnick Odair and thought it was a prank.

Claflin will take on the role of Odair for the first time in the upcoming The Hunger Games: Catching Fire as he is one of the big new additions to the cast list.

Catching Fire is the second of Suzanne Collins' novels to be adapted for the big screen and comes a year after the success of The Hunger Games.

Speaking to BANG the actor said: "I was shocked to get the phone call and then realised they had probably got the wrong person and got me instead.

"Or they'd asked everyone in Hollywood who had turned it down and I was like, 'Yeah OK, I'll go for it, I'll try to be the hottest man in the world.' "

Claflin is not the only new face as Jenna Malone, Philip Seymour Hoffman and Jeffrey Wright are all also on board.

It's also all change in the director's chair as Francis Lawrence has taken over the helm from Gary Ross. Lawrence will also direct The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 & 2.

Jennifer Lawrence will reprise the role of Katniss Everdeen, while Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Elizabeth Banks and Woody Harrelson will all be reprising their roles.

We haven't seen Claflin on the big screen since Snow White and the Huntsman, but he has completed work on Modern Life is Rubbish, The Quiet Ones and Love, Rosie.

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire is released 21st November.
